That's BOM (Byte Order Mark) for UTF-16. Could you try the following
patch?

Tried this, didn't work.

This is what's on the clipboard:

PasteboardRef: 3359360 ItemCount: 1
   Index: 1 item ID: 1112493904
      "public.utf16-plain-text"
      ""
      'utxt' ______ 8 1 2 3

      "com.apple.traditional-mac-plain-text"
      ""
      'TEXT' ______ 3 123

      "public.utf16-external-plain-text"
      ""
      'ut16' PT____ 10 1 2 3
