Same thing: ^ and $ and \ are not word-constituents.

IMO these characters are used in the above context as arguments, i.e. kind of "words." So shell-script mode should treat them in this context accordingly. It's obviously not correct to state that the set of the three characters ^,$,\ is in all cases never used like a word.
