I'm not quite sure if this is a bug or not. Please tell me if it is
not.
An overlay string is not displayed if it is on (before?) the text that
has some `display' property. For example,
1. emacs -Q -D
2. (setq overlay (make-overlay 1 1))
3. (overlay-put overlay 'before-string "aaa")
Then "aaa" is displayed at the beginning of buffer.
4. (put-text-property 1 2 'display "bbb")
Then "aaa" disappears.
