Given that emacs now has a nice timer mechanism, I believe it is
inevitable that over time there will be more, not fewer instances
of such wake-up and do some work behavior --- all of which is
nice on a desktop, but a pain when you're on a plane with a
laptop that is running out of power.
Maybe Emacs could open /proc/acpi/battery to determine that it is
on a laptop, and DTRT automatically.
