this problem disappeared after maintainer-clean and make bootstrap.
apologies...
using GNU/linux (redhat enterprise 4), most recent cvs Emacs 22.0.97.3 ,
trying to mail using smtp results in the error message (invalid-function
with-case-table). > traceback attached. thanks, EU
