In the code you provide, the overlay is two characters long, not one.
If you make the overlay span 3 to 4, everything works fine.
Ah, yes, but that was just to show that it is not necessary that it is
one character long. (When I reported it first that was all I knew. I
thought it was best to do it as quickly as possible.)
