There is nothing about the @ sign that represents email at all! It's about as much to do with email as the mail-truck, mail-box, European post-office emblem, mail-bag, mail-sling, etc. If we want to move away from mail (stamp, envelope, franking marks, etc. - everything closely associated in our psyche with "mail") then we ned something completely different. For example, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc. That's a new name, and then an identifying icon (the Firefox icon *is* a "firefox").
