If by "trickier" you mean "impossible" then I'll agree. :) Or maybe "insane" is more accurate. Mailman will never try to parse text/html to concatenate a footer. In fact, if it isn't text/plain and a matching character set, it punts to MIME attachment. However...
I've seen some systems add an additional MIME part to place a trailer in, and that can be pretty effective for MUAs that will show multiple parts in-line, but there are so many MUAs out there, that it is extremely difficult to make any certain declarations regarding what the user sees as a result.
It's actually easy to predict: they'll see crap that makes them unhappy. The cases where I'm wrong about that are so rare as to probably not matter <wink>.
