Greetings
Can Emailer get messages stored in the "Personal Filing Cabinet" of
AOL 5.0 or AOL 4.0?
I know Emailer can get the Address Book (I don't recall how, but
have done it before). I need to get the 13.3 megs of messages stored on
the computer from AOL to Emailer
Thanks to several who answered earlier questions both on this list
and directly to me.
Details
Continuing the migration from AOL 4.0 on OS 7.5.5 on a Mac 7100 to
iMac, OS 10:
(1) A copy of the HD of the 7100 was placed onto the iMac.
(2) The iMac was started in OS 10 with Classic
(3) The "Address Book" and "Personal Filing Cabinet" of AOL 4.0
were backed up.
(4) AOL 4.0 was not able to find the iMac modem. AOL 4.0 was
running in Classic.
(5) AOL 4.0 was able to send/receive mail in classic through TCP/IP
connection with a non-AOL isp number, name, password.
(6) AOL 5.0 was installed under classic and AOL 4.0 upgraded to 5.0.
(7) AOL 5.0 was not able to find the iMac modem. It would connect
through TC P/IP as did AOL 4.0.
(8) Called AOL service. "Andrew" said AOL 5.0 could not dial from
classic. He said it could dial if iMac was started under 9.2 without OS
10. I did not test that.
Situation and plans
We are with AOL 5.0 under Classic connecting through a non-AOL ISP.
I've been told convincingly that we cannot get online through an AOL
# without using AOL software to dial. 4.0 and 5.0 cannot dial.
We do not want to go to AOL for OS 10. We want to leave AOL but
want to keep our AOL screen name, address book, and accumulated mail.
I know we can send/receive new email from Emailer under Classic.
The question is the accumulated mail.
