Here they say:  "If your email software supports it"  - what if your 
email software doesn't support SMTP Auth?  Claris Em@iler does not do 
SMTP Auth - though you could use Baton Mail to achieve that functionality.

Nothing here does anything to enable SMTP Auth.

I guess this is something to ensure that the new settings work.


I'd suggest that you change nothing, if all is working, leave well enough 
alone.
