First you have to ask yourself... do you CARE about learning these things. Are you currently content with the way things are (the amount of effort it takes to do something, or the time involved). If you have no problems with the status quo, you may find that you don't have the underlying ambition to bother trying to learn new stuff. And don't discount simple curiousity as a valid reason for caring about learning things. Next, decide what you want to learn. Do you just want to know new tricks to using the Mac? Then maybe the easiest/cheapest, route is to get a mac magazine subscription, and skim thru some mac web sites that have regular tips and tricks. If you want to learn slighty more powerful things... books are good. If you are a true novice to the topic, I have found the "For Dummies" series tends to be good. I am sure they have one on AppleScript (which is always a good place to start in leaning programming, as you can get almost immediate use out of it... once you understand the basics of AppleScript, you find that there are everyday tasks you do that you can save yourself time and effort with a script). And then there is nothing wrong with the good old fashioned hacker approach. Roll up your sleeves, and get in there... start messing with stuff, see what happens. Look at the preferences to all your applications. See (and understand) what each of the settings does. Start doing things that might not normally be done... see what happens. Sure, this approach is bound to eventually leave you with a crash... facing a blinking question mark... but sometimes it is the best way to really understand everything. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
