Hi Eric, Why don't you contact the Nisus company & try to make a deal with THEM for a free copy? Perhaps you can offer to pay in 5 years, or to wear a shirt with their advertising 1 day a week while you are a student. Or put a tiny commercial for Nisus in the margin of everything you print. Or WRITE A REVIEW of Nisus for your school paper in exchange for a free copy (be sure to mail them a hard copy of the issue with your article). Or give a free seminar to other students on why Nisus Writer is better, in exchange for a free copy. There are a lot of creative ways to trade something you can do to the manufacturer for something you want.
And if you are able to do this ethically & honestly, you will feel better about yourself, and people will respect you more. I know, because I'm a computer consult. Every week people try to talk me into giving them free software. But nobody's perfect, and money doesn't grow on trees. Occasionally I copy a program; but that's generally just to try before I buy, or to learn it enough to support my client. If I use it for myself or my business, then I buy it. Think about what would happen if nobody paid for software. Would there be professional developers making good software? Once in a while I crack, and give someone a copy of something. Those same people then begin to respect my integrity less than the people I refused to steal software for.They don't value the service nor the products anymore. This make a really big difference later, if there is something wrong, or a shadow of suspicion that someone did something, and I had access to their machine.... I have learned that it is VERY important to be above suspicion, and I must earn & deserve people's trust. Trust is difficult to get, and easy to loose. Because I do my best to be ethical, I am able to be more confident, and that goes full circle to help my business & personal life in ways I can't describe. I usually hear a story about the scumbag software pirate that used to work for them, but they never really trusted him, since they knew he was a thief. I want my clients to never say that about me. And I do believe that Nisus isn't a large company. Every sale probably matters to them. Hope this helps.
