When I get these "network stream errors", it's usualy caused by problems 
ocurring with accented (more than just plain 7-bit) charcters in the mail 
(sometimes also if I'm ataching something with accents in it).

I have a script, that checks and reformats the body of the mail, maybe 
that wil help you.
