Hey Charles, nobody ever got rich or successful trying to interpret what
those error codes really mean. In most cases, they are a sign of a memory
issue or a software corruption or incompatibility problem. In fact, for
me, a simple restart of the computer seems to resolve most error messages
I receive (which does not happen often).

Having said that, you can get a freeware program called Apple Error Codes
98 from Versiontracker.com at:

<
http://www.versiontracker.com/mp/new_search.m?mode=Quick&productDB=mac&sear
ch=apple+error+codes&OS_Filter=MACOS>

or just go to versiontracker.com and search (in the upper-right corner)
for Apple Error Codes. It might help a little, assuming you're running
Mac OS 9.x or earlier.
