Well...Dave, Chris, Helder, et al--

That sound you heard a little while ago was me determined to get my
nephew off email at his university in Arkansas--or at least to ban him
from forwarding messages...

After trying the local access number (same result), checking all my
scripts and log-on information, changing between three TCP/telnet
conduits (TCPack--do they still exist?, Black Night demo, and TGE TCP), I
tried using Emailer to get messages off my AOL account (kept for my wife
and son's addresses at present). It handily and quickly downloaded all
the spam, sales pitches and porn solicitation that comes to that
account(and why I never use it or look at it).

That got me thinking. I called CompuServe tech support, and they said
there had been no changes or adjustments to the service within the last
few days. The tech suggested that it sounded like a problem with one of
the messages. Hmm...I had thought of that first, and had trashed the
first message in my in-box via the CIS software early on. But... I just
realized that msg and the next were both forwards from my nephew who is a
college freshman. When I went in via CIS and deleted the next two
messages (for good measure)--EUREKA!!!

I am irritated and embarrassed--thank you for all your help (now I have
the ability to do another clean install should I need to), and hopefully
my experience will help others save time when they face it. This has
been the place to come--I am a minority of a minority within a
minority--using Claris Emailer to access a CompuServe classic account via
DSL on Mac OS 9!!

Be assured that Jonathan will get a loving but firm lecture from his
favorite uncle about forwarding spam ;->!!

Thanks again--it's back to being a digest subscriber for now.

Blessings,

Fred
