Sheafe and all,

>From earlier discussions (year or two or more ago) on this list, I do
recall that Apple had some contract terms with AOL for the portion of the
code which allowed it to retrieve AOL mail. So first, it would be highly
unlikely that AOL would okay the release of the code due to its
'proprietary' code in there. More likely the persons releasing the code
would hear quickly from AOL's attorneys...

Also, Apple hasn't probably released the people who programmed Emailer
(Michelle, Jud, and others who have been on this list in the past) from
the non-disclosure agreements that they signed. So anyone making the code
available would possibly be just looking for a juicy lawsuit from that
corner, too.

If it ever happens, it's more likely that any "Emailer 3" (or higher)
would be developed by someone (or persons) with plenty of time and money
who would start from the appearance and feature sets of Emailer 2.0v3
(plus any additional features desired). As I recall from when Michelle
and Jud were on the list, Emailer is a rather ambitious undertaking in
terms of the lines of code (didn't hear numbers, just the list of
features tells us how complex the program is).

All the more reason to appreciate CE for the gem that it is... :-)
