OK ... that's a pretty comprehensive set of alternatives. I'll try each 
one in turn and see how far I get. The solution is in there, somewhere.

Funnily enough, I've had the problem for some time and never lost any 
information. It poses only a minor irritation to me but I would like to 
get it sorted once and for all.

I do backup (actually a move) to a suite of FileMaker Pro databases which 
keeps the Emailer database fairly small. John Carlsen has introduced be 
to another backup solution of his own design and whilst it installed OK, 
I'm having problems getting it to work.

I agree that indexing is probably the cause and it'll take quite a lot of 
effort to fix.
