I am not sure it has anything to do with the OS. I have used Emailer 
under 7.5, 8, 8.5 and 9.1. I have noticed the "pitch" and "tempo" of the 
sound slowing if Virtual Memory is on. With it off, the sound is what I 
consider normal (quick and high?).

Haven't seen this. Are you talking in the Browser window or where?

I think this a "bug" that I noticed when I upgraded OS to 9.1. According 
to one of the Emailer 2 development team, there is no way to fix this.

It seems that I ran this updater many moons ago, but don't remember any 
change at all.

What is the symptom of your corruption? Generally, I suggest making a 
backup copy FAST. I do this by copying the "Mail" folder to a separate 
disk/partition. Then, you might try to force a rebuild by removing the 
"Index" from the Mail folder (with Emailer off) then relaunching Emailer. 
This causes a rebuild of the index where most of the corruption seems to 
occur.
