and...
Try disabling the Toast CD Reader extension. 

I had a similar looney "won't read" problem with just one commercial CD 
(reputedly the first music CD ever issued), which would freeze up my 
whole 9600 until I ejected the CD.  The solution was to disable this 
Toast extension, which apparently is often not needed anyway, but can 
always be re-enabled when using Toast, if necessary.
