My daughter's mother is French (we met when I was in the Army in
Germany and she was a student there) and my daughter spent her early
years growing up in France. When she hears jokes like the one about the
'barely used French rifels' she grimaces and moves on.
She spent far longer in France being taunted for being half-American
than she has listening to the French-bashing since the fight began in
Iraq. When she gets tired of it, she has plenty of her own to say about
it.
Of course, with her accent it's far more interesting to listen to
