Dear Mary Lou,

I'm certain there are those on this emailer list who will directly answer
your question about how to make the datatransfer between your Performa
6400 and G-4.

However, I make the following information available that might be of
interest to you, and to anyone who needs to upgrade their connectors

Does your Performa have an available open PCI slot?

I have an old clone, a Supermax UMAX J-700 (which I've upgraded to G-3,
using a card installed into one of the available PCI slots.) The
computer makes most peripheral connections using SCSI (printer, scanner
and older backup drive)

My SCSI-connected Epson printer died. Had to replace. New printers
require a USB connection. SCSI is "dead." What to do? My solution was
to install another card into a PCI slot: one that provides two USB
connections. The card required (free downloadable from Apple) software
to put it into operation. The process took 10 minutes. The PCI USB card
was purchased from CompUSA for about $29.

I don't know if you're giving up on the Performa.... it is, after all, a
relative dinosaur, as is my clone. But, I find the clone to be extremely
reliable in most respects, and I really don't *need* a newer computer &
software to do the things I like or need to do. (Of course I want a
G-5... one that has Panther installed... but that can come in good time.)

If your Performa has an available PCI slot, you might consider getting a
Jaz drive with a USB slot, install a PCI-USB card in your Performa (with
the software which makes the card operational,) and you'll be up and
running again, able to backup to the Jaz drive.

Sheafe
