How does Sympatico say you have to configure Outlook Express to collect mail from this other folder? Are they expecting their cutomers to all switch to IMAP email clients? > I am considering Sympatico because they have a DSL connection and my >ISP's cheaper high speed (1500bps) connection uses ASDL which I >understand may be a problem as my phones lines are somewhat "dirty" and I >sometimes get bumped from a 48bps connection. DSL is really xDSL, ie: DSL is just a shortened term for a version of DSL that has another leading letter. 99% of residential DSL providers are doing ADSL. Unless Sympatico is offering you SDSL or IDSL then you would get a new phone line with the DSL service. Check with your current ISP and ask them if your line qualifies. A "dirty" phone line for dialup doesn't mean it won't work just fine with DSL. Also, are you sure your dialup problem is the line? Many 56k modems will have handshake problems even over good lines. So it may not be the line, it may just be a problem between your brand modem and your ISPs modem pool. One thing you can do to get around it is downgrade your modem to a 33.6 speed (you can do it thru AT commands, most 56k modem providers offer an alternate modem profile that will force 33.6 connections). That will help avoid the disconnects, but at the expense of a lower speed. And of course, even if it IS a line problem, and even if the line problem effects the DSL, it may only effect it by causing a lower connect speed. Rather than the advertised 1500k, you might only get 1200k or 700k. That's probably still worth it compared to an unstable 48k dialup connection. And finally, if it is a line problem, like I listed above, unless Sympatico is using a type of DSL service that requires a line of its own, then they too will have the same problems as your current ISP. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
