30/11/03 [EMAIL PROTECTED] : >Folks, I have an old 7500 running 8.1. I want to update it to 8.6(it >won't accept 9.0+)
It should. >can download the Mac OS 8.6 (either full or update from 8.1)? I think 8.6 is an update from 8.5, not from 8.1 The OS update paths for the 7500 are: System 7.5.5 Use the 7500's original System 7.5.2 CD and download the 7.5.5 update from Apple. Mac OS 7.6.1 Find a Mac OS 7.6 CD (hard to find), or use the original 7.5.2 CD and download the 7.6 and 7.6.1 updates from Apple. Mac OS 8.1 (required minimum to use disks formatted as HFS+) Find a Mac OS 8.1 CD, or a 8.0 CD and download the 8.1 update from Apple. Mac OS 8.6 Find a Mac OS 8.6 CD, or a 8.5 CD (easier to find) and download the 8.6 update from Apple. Mac OS 9.1 Find a Mac OS 9.1 CD, or a 9.0 CD and download the 9.1 update from Apple. Mac OS 9.2.2 (tricky) Install 9.1 and download the 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 updates from Apple, then use OS9Helper to make them accept pre-G3 macs. www.os9helper.com Mac OS X 10.3 (tricky and costly) Upgrade the 7500 to the hardware requirements of OS X (see below). Install OS 9. Use XPostFacto to trick the OS X installer to accept pre-G3 macs. http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/ OS X hardware requirements: - a big disk (minimum 2 GB, prefer 5 or 10 GB) formatted with Apple's Drive Setup - a lot of RAM (the 7500's max is 1 GB) - a CPU more recent than the 7500's PowerPC 601 (there are G3 and G4 CPU upgrade cards for the 7500) - at least a PowerPC 603 or 604 CPU for Mac OS X 10.0 - at least a PowerPC G3 or G4 CPU for Mac OS X 10.2 and 10.3 - some software to enable the G3 or G4 card's L2 cache in Mac OS X ( L2CacheConfig or PowerLogix Cache Control) >Please respond to me directly oops ---- VRic ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
