I don't think it's a CE issue, because I don't see it (CE running for
days under 10.3.2).

I had some problems where CE crashed Classic, sometimes requiring a full
restart in OS 9 to allow Classic and Emailer to relaunch, but I suspect
they weren't CE's fault, but rather discrepancies in the OSX/Classic
network translation when TCP/IP settings differ, which can't be solved
from Classic since you can't open OS 9's TCP/IP control panel in Classic.

I'm just guessing, but given CE's age it might use, maybe partly, the
"MacTCP DNR" file left in the OS 9 system folder for legacy pre-Open
Transport apps, and I wouldn't be too surprised if OS X/Classic/OT
support wasn't thorough to the point of massaging pre-OT stuff perfectly.

What you could try is to precisely note OS X's TCP/IP settings, boot in
OS 9 (from the same OS 9 system folder used by Classic), and replicate
exactly the same settings in the TCP/IP control panel, then reboot in OS
X and see if the issue is still there.
