If this is a problem that has arisen in the last three days, I would 
guess the delay is a consequence of the latest Wintel virus/worm. It has 
saturated many ISPs and mail servers. Some ISPs have simply shut down, 
stranding outgoing relayed mail. The combination of sheer volume of 
messages and worries about infection have slowed everything down.
