>I will take your suggestions to the tech guy tomorrow and if that does
>not work I am going to see his boss and find out if they really know what
>they are doing. If my G3 is finished I will take you up on the offer and
>send it to you. But I really hope not because I simply cannot afford a
>new computer, not on my meager SS income. But my wife gets her SS next
>month and then maybe we can afford to buy a G5 on an Apple payment plan.

Two things to note:

1. Its a joke to become an Apple Certified Tech these days. You pay $200
for a pack of CDs and a training CD. You go thru the training CD, read
over the notes, and then go pay another $100 to take an exam. When you
pass (which from the looks of it, just about any semi computer literate
moron can do), you become an Apple Certified Tech.

And if you are too stupid to pass it on your own, there are "boot camps"
that you pay a higher price to ($1000), and they make sure you pass
(basically, they teach you exactly what you need to pass the test, and
then let you take it over and over until you do pass it).

So even if the guy has no clue what he is doing, that doesn't rule out
the fact that he might very well be an Apple Certified Tech.

2. Depending on your computing needs, you can get a used Mac for dirt
cheap. Check out the LEM Swap list (www.lowendmac.com check out the Email
Lists section, sign up for the LEM Swap list). Its basically a Classified
Ads list for Macs. I regularly see early desktop G3 machines selling for
$40 (in fact, there was one offered today, G3/233, OS 9.1, 96 MB RAM, 24x
CD, 4 gig HD for $39.00 plus shipping, $42 if you want 128 MB of ram and
a zip drive added). You can pick up any old PC VGA monitor and a video
adaptor to use with the G3 desktops (17" VGA monitors sell new for under
$100, or drive around during your town's bulk garbage pickup, you will
probably find a perfectly fine 15" VGA monitor in the trash, I see them
ALL the time around here). If you go this route, let me know, I'll GIVE
you an ADB keyboard and mouse (I have a crate load of ADB keyboards, and
a similar number of ADB mice).

iMacs can be had for under $200 (listed today is Teal iMac, 64MB ram, 4g
HDD, 24x CD, OS 9.1, keyboard, mouse, for $110)

You should be able to get a machine that suits your needs.
