>Wow! What's the story on this? Does the Emailer-Talk list unsubscribe
>anybody if even one of the subscribers bounces it back? How strange!

I know the list server is VERY picky with bounces and will unsubscribe
someone who's account bounces an email (I believe just one email is
sufficient to be unsubscribed). I know I had a hell of a problem with
this when I was using a .Mac account and my email was regularly bounced.

I don't know why it was unsubscribing Bill due to Brian's block. Brian
wasn't actually blocking Bill, but rather cox.net because of spam
problems with them. I don't know the specifics on how Brian was doing the
blocking, so I don't know why the list server felt it was Bill's fault
for bouncing the message and thus unsubscribing him. (I would have
thought it would have unsubscribed Brian because Brian's account was the
one bouncing the email)

>Chris, how did you know who is doing the rejecting?

Bill's forward of the bounce message contained part of Brian's email
address. I recognized the address as someone from the list, so I searched
thru my deleted mail to see if I could find his entire address. It turned
out I still had an email in my deleted mail folder from Brian to the
list, so I simply played the role of intermediary and sent an email to
him pointing out the problem, and asking if he would be a nice guy and
try to help resolve it.

As it stands, Brian is a nice guy, and as of last night, Bill should be
able to post again. At least for the time being. I presume if Brian
starts getting flooded with spam from cox.net again, that he may have to
reinstate his block on that domain. That may cause Bill to once again be
a causality of war in the fight against spam. (I can't fault Brian if he
chooses to go that route, although it is his block that is causing Bill
to be unsubscribed, it really isn't Brian's fault directly. The list
server should be smart enough to not do what it is doing, and cox.net
should be responsible enough to stop spammers so Brian doesn't have to
block them in the first place. So I don't think any of us can reasonably
expect Brian to suffer spam headaches because of issues that are beyond
his control. Sounds like a bad thing to say when you know that Bill will
be a causality of it, but alas, that's life.)

And on the humorous side of things, Emailer's spell check offers as
possible correct spellings of "spammers" both "slammers" and "shammers".
Both of which seem fitting terms for spammers. :-)
