It amuses how ingrained now into the world culture has become the
venerable SPAM (notice the correct orthography as instructed by Hormel!)

It is basically disgusting product which takes quite delicious under
certain circumstances: maybe like Chris' once a year with eggs, or as I
haven't had for years and after reading this am craving, fried crispy on
both sides for lunch!

My personal favorite SPAM recollection comes from the early 70s when I
was traveling, back when one could spell it "Spam." We were driving in
the wilds of the Highlands of Scotland, slightly south of Bettyhill, on a
road completely deserted for miles and hours. Suddenly we approached a
little ramshackle stand about 3 feet wide, reminiscent of a kid's
lemonade stand on a sidewalk, completely otherwise isolated for any signs
of civilization, with a sign saying "Hamburger." At this point having
been without a real hamburger for over 2 years, as this was long before
the global march of MacDonalds, I insisted to my British friends that we
stop and have a "hamburger." Well, imagine my surprise when sandwiched
between two pieces of white bread was a slice of slightly warm, slightly
cooked, good ol' Hormel Spam! Somehow the true translation of
"hamburger" had made it not yet that far north in the British Isles!

As far as computer spam I think it is most important to use one's
"valuable" eddress(es) judiciously and maintain freebie eddresses for
casual, or fun, or for dropping on websites. Thus, if one gets on
serious spam lists, one can just abandon the trashed eddress. On my ISP
eddress I almost never get any spam, a combination I suspect of their
doing good spam blocking and their being a Mac-only ISP making them less
spam worthy for some reason (It is www.theMacISP.com, which used to be
the www.appleisp.net, and now uses both-a great dialup ISP now with the
new high speed dialup, too.) However, I rarely use the ISP eddresses
where there is a likelihood they'll get on spam lists. A good "freeby"
eddress site is www.hotpop.com which offers both automatic forwarding and
POP access (given one 2 ways to get the email into Emailer!).
