Calamitous mistake: Command-A -> Applescript "shred messages" whilst mistakenly thinking I was open in the *Deleted Mail* Folder. Instead, I was open in the In Box. Result: deletion of a years + worth of mail still in the In Box. Of course, this had no effect on the material in the other folders where I had filed messages.
Question: How may I combine the use of my last backup of Emailer (Feb. 16) for the Inbox Messages, while continuing to use the up-to-date information contained in the other Folders that were not impacted by my stupid error? Or can I? If I use my Feb. 16 backup for Mail Index and Mail Database I have no access to the material (that which arrived after the backup) I had filed in other folders. At least, that's how it seems to have turned out. I suspect it's a matter of resource forks, which I know nothing about, except in concept. I tried removing one the other or both, either Mail Index or Mail Database from the Mail folder, then substituting the same from the backup. Usually what happened was the creation of a completely new (empty) folder. This tells me Emailer wasn't recognizing the one I was trying to use... probably because of a lack of a catalogue file. The substitution of the *entire* backup Mail folder at least allowed me to recover everything until Feb. 16.But, I had hoped to be able to use the other files..... ones not affected by the "shredding". It seems to be either/or: use today's Emailer with the missing InBox mails, but still with intact *other* folders, or use the Backup copy, missing two weeks of both InBox mail and mails filed in other folders (Feb 16 until today.) Thanks for any help.
