This is a complex and comprehensive subject which requires more than one simple email to explain but I will try my best to articulate what I mean by *proper education* and how it will reduce crime. Please see my comments below. This is a short email answer Bill because I do not wish to take up anyones bandwidth for such an indirectly related comment to our basic Emailer discussion purpose. I also have a longer version I am sending you personally. > >>I know Chris disagrees but I feel only proper education is going to >>reduce significantly these spammers. > >But what does "proper education" mean? We old farts (and that includes >me) may rail against the constant downward slide in our society's values, >but people have been doing that for hundreds of years. Do you expect the >public education system to work a miracle on kids who's parents don't >model good values for them? The public education system does not have to work a miracle Bill, just do their job properly and they don't and have not for years. We need universal and compulsory education but our system is disorganized and the whim of politicians and a public that has little realism. Think of our society as a system. Each system has three basic components, i.e. Human and Material Resources perceived and utilized by Effective Communication. By Communication I mean how we perceive the universe, the entire creation and its many components including people. It is obvious to any thinker that if we have race, religious, gender and class prejudices then we are out of touch with reality for there is absolutely no scientific basis for any of these terrible behaviors that are contrary to the very principle of nature, i.e. unity with diversity. Prejudice by definition is an emotional commitment to an error in knowledge. Therefore it is a result of incorrect and unrealistic, even irrational perception (communication). This applies to crime, spamming and any other aberrant behavior. > >Eliminating spamming, cheating, stealing, etc. involves changing the >entire value system of a society. I don't know how that can be done, but >I think it will require something beyond "proper education," whatever >that means. All societies have always had people who exhibit anti-social >behavior, and no society has fixed it. Yes, it is true that what we need is a complete overhaul of our entire value system. Such a body of knowledge and its educational philosophy that can solve this does exist but the *powers that be*, the decision makers themselves, are part of the problem which blocks this kind of holistic education. As I said our society is a system. Our capital is our material and human resources. What kind of businessman would deliberately destroy his own capital? An irrational one for sure. But yet here we are making all kinds of irrational decisions to destroy our resources. Obviously this is the result of faulty education and new education and a holistic paradigm of existence will help remedy such a thing. But one of the biggest barriers to the discovery and application of this holistic model is the belief that it is not possible for us to remedy such things as crime, violence, destruction of the environment or the achievement of world peace and unity. I ask the following question in my Jail classes. Is it possible us to achieve world peace and unity? 95% of the inmates will answer NO! Then I ask them if they pray and they say yes. When queried I find they say what is commonly known as the Lord's Prayer which ends with the phrase "Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." I then ask if this be true then why do we not believe it and act like it and of course that leads to all sorts of discussions and disagreements that are very interesting. I then point out that we here in the USA had achieved the highest stage of unity the world has ever seen. We welded together 13 separate sovereignties under the principle of federalism, a principle that can also be applied to the world. We also have today, the principle of collective security that can be applied by the UN upon agreement of all nations. However some nations want to still take things into their own hands and thus create even more problems. So if we do not believe that peace and unity are achievable then we will not act to realize this goal. But I have seen what this new education (reeducation) can do in both my students around the world in general and those incarcerated in our Jail. The effects would be even more dramatic should the powers that be and community get behind it and give the much needed support and follow up. warmly, doug > >Bill ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
