Thanks to Sheafe and all who responded to my exasperated plea for advice arising from British Telecom's inability to connect broadband despite having ADSL-enabled the local telephone exchange. Such is the reach of this list that Martin kindly forwarded my email to his brother who lives nearby in South Oxfordshire, and who has put me in touch with a wireless broadband company operating locally.
I am also getting quotes from two satellite companies (expensive option) and have rejected the notion of a leased line (very expensive and slow). It seems British Telecom are testing a technology that will double the present three mile ADSL service limit. When that will be offered is another matter of course.
