Within five seconds, my (personal) eBay summary came up,
after I typed into the URL box: <my.ebay.com> I don't ever
recall a time when the connection took much longer.

I subscribe to low-power (cheaper) broadband cable.

My conclusion: Since you say you have an eBay account, try
connecting via: my.ebay.com which should bring up *your*
ebay Summary, giving the history of your bidding, the
number of items being watched, etc.

Should you still have a slow download, I would place the
problem within your computer connection.

Incidentally, if you *do* place a winning bid on an item,
eBay will send you an email to notify you of that fact.
