Reference recent discussions about purchasing copies of obsolescent
programs like Home Page and, dare I say it, Emailer itself, what is the
position about such sales? I am sure that it is perfectly legitimate to
sell a boxed, unopened copy of an app, but what about used ones?
Presumably registration is intended to prevent just that?
We had a heated discussion about this subject a couple of years ago. I
have never pirated a single piece of software that is still being sold
and supported by its originator. But once it has been abandoned by its
maker, I have no problem at all at trying to get a used copy. However, I
know that many will disagree with my position.
If Apple or its spin-off, FileMaker, would sell me a copy of Home Page,
then I would have been happy to pay for one right now. But since it
won't, then I am happy that someone has sent me a used copy for the cost
of the postage.
Now I just have to get the time to install it and see if I can make it work.
