While discussing the creation and the viewing of special characters, exactly what function in the MacOS (not in OS X) do the various language encoding packs have? These are optionally installed during the installation process of a system, and refer mostly to the non-Latin or non-western European-based languages (eg. Chinese, Kanji, Cyrillic, etc.) I don't think these packs install fonts, although they may. Does anyone know?
