I consider this a mistaken approach. Seriously. Doing something you want
to do is perfect. Making it so that it can "do anything", turns it into a
Microsoft Word.

What you probably mean, and there is probably greater demand for, is a
product that does something straightforward, has all the essential
features, and is EASY TO USE.

the reason Emailer is so popular among people who use it is A) it is easy
to use B) it cannot catch a virus C) it does all the basics D) it is easy
to use E) it is flexible enough to have staying power, F) it handles the
basics with ease, and of course, G), it is easy to use.

Create a program that is easy to use. If that is another emailer, there
will be people who use it and fall in love with it.

I do consider most of the user interface elements of emailer, while
dated, to be well thought out. Making a clone of Emailer, with Cocoa,
would be an ambitious project, but easier than most such projects, as you
are essentially copying something directly, so less thought has to be put
into the user interface.

Don't try to make it do everything, whatever you do, just make it do what
it does easy and reliable.

good luck!
