Actually I just downloaded RCDefaultApp and tried it but it seems to no 
want to allow the selection of a non-OS X application, even though 
Emailer can be added to the menu selection, it always jumps back to 
Mail.app.  I downloaded another Mac OS X email client PowerMail and it 
was possible to add AND select that application AND command click does 
work.  

Any other ideas folks?

So, for the moment, it just seems one cannot prefer any non-OS X email 
client.
