In reference to dialup internet access, "Shell Account" refers to a different way of connecting. The "normal" dialup internet service is PPP (Point to Point Protocol). Some ISPs offer "shell" connections, which is basically a straight terminal connection to the internet. Shell service really only matters if you are trying to use something that can't speak PPP. MacSSH is an SSH client (Secure SHell). SSH is an encrypted version of Telnet. I haven't used MacSSH in a while, so I don't know if it can dial a modem, if it can, then you could use it to connect to a shell dialup account. (Otherwise, any modem dialing telnet client will work, like Zterm). If it doesn't support dialing a modem, then you could still use it for any SSH Shell access over an existing internet connection. I don't recall if it supports plain Telnet (probably), if it does, then you can use it for Telnet Shell as well over an existing connection. What you used to do with the U of W server over dialup was a Shell dialup account. Now you use a Shell account on the server over the internet. Same idea, different way of physically connecting to the server (once the physical connection is made, the Shell account is essentially exactly the same). For the most part, if someone doesn't know why they would want a shell account, then they don't need it. Most people would not need it and would have no use for it. I only brought it up because of the desire to connect to the internet using a TeleVideo terminal (just wanted to point out that it could be done with the correct type of setup). -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
