Problem was that a long time ago I had moved the preference file INTO the Emailer folder, but for some reason there was still a preference file in the System Folder of the Mac OS 9 that is now being used for Classic on the new computer, so even though I was deleting the preference file in the Emailer folder nothing was happening. So it seems that Emailer looks first in the System Folder for its pref file and 2nd in the Emailer folder, but if both exist it uses the System Folder one.
