I assume you are trying to send an attachment. For whatever reason, 
Emailer can't encode that attachment.

Make sure the attachment is still attached (that is, you didn't move it 
and Emailer lost track of where it was located), also make sure you can 
write to the volume the file is on (if you are trying to attach a file 
off a CD that can cause problems as Emailer tries to encode the 
attachment and may try to save the temp file in the same location as the 
file being sent, which it can't do on a read only medium like a CD).

Finally, make sure your drive is healthy. Run your favorite disk checking 
tool or Disk First Aid and be sure the drive checks out ok.


And if all else fails, reboot the computer.
