Since we are off topic anyway, and a lot of queries about dsl and cable modems, thought I would share this disturbing link:
How Comcast Rooted My Box: <http://mikey-san.net/damage/archives/2005/09/race_condition.html> Essentially COMCAST wrote a unix root hack and put it in their internet install kit. And left it there, for anyone to take advantage of. un-bleeping-believeable. A reader added a comment that setuid scripts are disabled with 10.3.9 or later, but this still applies on Comcast installs before that date. It is now possible to hack into an OS X system, as long as that user has a cable modem. thank you Comcast. I imagine there are other developers with similar stupidity, as yet undiscovered. When you give your password on a system, you trust the developer of that software with your data-life. Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with your Microsoft product. -- Ferenc Mantfeld Mark James SoftRAID, LLC mjames@ softraid.com ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
