Actually, for internet dialup, Emailer doesn't have anything to do with the dialing. Emailer simply starts a TCP/IP connection (makes the attempt to connect to the mail server). The Mac OS sees that attempt, and IF your dialup settings say to dial on demand, then the Mac OS will dial the modem, make the correct connection (usually PPP) and start the TCP/IP stack, allowing Emailer to complete the connection. If you do not have your dialup settings set to dial on demand, then the Mac OS will not connect to the internet and thus the TCP/IP stack won't start up, and Emailer should generate a error. Also, if the dialup connection takes too long to complete, Emailer may time out waiting for a reply from the mail server. If you are running OS X, this fails on the first attempt. Everything works just like the above, but Classic doesn't connect the active TCP/IP connection from Emailer thru to the OS X TCP/IP connection. So although OS X will properly dial the internet and make the connection, Emailer will still time out waiting for a reply from the mail server. A 2nd attempt (or any attempt AFTER the dialup connection is already made in OS X) will go thru just fine.
