Mike T recorded that >I am having some annoying Classic crashes on Tiger (10.4.6). On a 12" >PowerBook G4 (DVI) with 768 MB RAM. Emailer is the only application >running in Classic and if Classic crashes new unsaved emails are lost
Apple dont seem to be admitting anything, but I am certain there is a bug in 10.4.6 which affects Classic on Powerbooks plus a few other things (iLife install DVD doesnt work). It does also seem to be associated with Airport or made worse by wireless installs: Software Update recently picked up an Airport upgrade (probably for 10.4.2) which appears to have been included in the 10.4.6 Combo update, but may be worth knowing about if using an earlier version of the system. Reinstalling 10.4.0 cures the problems I have seen, but upgrading using the combined update off Software Update simply recreates the instability. One theory is that a more solid result is achieved by doing progressive upgrades from 10.4. Upgrading straight off the broadband link rather than via Airport may help sidestep whatever the wireless issue is. The other common problem that may stretch its tentacles in here is the difficulty awaking from sleep? Lots of solutions offered though I have never found one that works totally.
