You can either use your Trash Messages and Attachments script, or you can manually delete them. If you sort the folder by Kind you will get them lumped together and be able to junk who types at the same time.
Personally, I just always cleaned out my downloads folder manually every week or so. But then, I never kept attachments to emails I cared about in the downloads folder, I always moved them to whatever location they belonged when I filed the email to its final destination.
This is one of the upsides of a mail client that doesn't automatically detach attachments, when you trash an email, you trash the attachment with it. Of course, there are also mail clients that DO detach the attachment automatically, and will also delete the attachment from the downloads folder when you delete the email (in fact, I think all the current mail clients that automatically detach attachments give you the option of trashing it when the email is trashed).
