I understand what you mean Bill..

but just imagine that you just bought a brand new PC,
it contains no WINZIP program.

En you would receive WINZIP as a .ZIP file...

One might start chewing one's toe-nails... off course after emptying all 
the other bags of chips available..

So, I do understand that there is a need for an executable that can run 
'on the platform'.

And an .sea or on pc a .exe file can be useful.

Also because the makers of other compression programs cannot really ship 
their product wrapped in a .ZIP file.

I personally think the computerworld and Apple are to blame if they think 
they can freely decide if they can include or exclude tools like MacLink 
or STUFFIT with certain mac's and later drop it.

I believe that standards that have been part of an OS many years should 
melt into the foundations, unless when they are bad.

I have had customers who were not happy after Maclink was dropped, and 
they could not doubleclick a word processor document to open it.
