Bill queried my solution to the roaming send problem: > >>When I am using, say, an hotel's free WiFi sending >>is of course a pain. However I then log onto iPass's >>Outbound Email Registration page . . . > >I looked for this, but could not find it. > >Is this a free service, or do you have to pay iPass or >someone else?
ISPs affiliated to iPass, of which there are many, should have an outbound email registration page on their website. Assuming you are a client of said ISP you do not need to tinker with your send settings: just go to this page and enter the username and password you use with that ISP. This then permits mail to be sent over the roaming network, typically a hotel broadband connection or public WiFi service. Very clean and easy. There is no charge for this (apart from your monthly ISP subscription). In the days when dialup predominated many users subscribed to CompuServe and AOL simply to get local call access all over the US (and often at trunk call cost elsewhere the world). With the prevalence of wireless networks that no longer seems reason enough.
