PowerMail's import from Claris Emailer uses AppleScript. In my
experience, starting from an big old & well abused Emailer db, the
PowerMail import was a 3 day painful process with a lot of crashing that
required a lot of babysitting. I expect that my Emailer db was corrupt
in various ways, so the Applescript method of coaxing the emails out
worked, but was laborious. I had to go folder by folder, so when it
crashed I wouldn't have to start over from the beginning. What a royal pain!

In contrast the Emailchemy app from WierdKid.com is fab! It does read
directly from the CE db, and it tore through the whole dang db in less
than an hour. No problems. Totally worth it if you ask me.
