You cannot use the Mac running OS 9 or OS 8.6 as server for the Mac running
Mac OS X. You'll get an error message stating that some component of
AppleTalk is too old.

Using the Mac OS X Mac as server and connecting the Mac running OS 9 or OS
8.6 to it, however, works just fine.

I synchronize my beige G3 MT to my PowerBook G4 just this way (using
Synchronize!) However, there is but one glitch... copying files using the
program Synchronize! to the PowerBook works just fine. Copying the same file
to the PowerBook from the Finder, results in the message, that the file
server quit the connection unexpectedly. Copying file from the PowerBook
using the Mac OS 8.6 finder works well again.

I asked the guys at Qdea Software, whether Synchronize! behaves different
that the Finder, but they said iit's just plain file copying and nothing
different from the Mac OS 8.6 Finder. They didn't have an explanation why
Synchronize! can copy files, whereas the Finder can't.

Udo
