I recently switched from eMailer to Mail.app, so I could stop using Classic and so I could see html formatted mail. I evaluated both Mail.app and Entourage. I finally decided on Mail.app, because:
1) it was better integrated into the Mac (address book, calendar, etc)
2) it takes up less ram when running
3) it seemed to have more flexibility in setting up "rules" (at least, I couldn't figure out how to do it in Entourage).

Disadvantages of Mail.app over Entourage:
1) Apple address book is not as smart (eMailer and Entourage can have multiple addresses per person and specify which one is "primary". I can't see how to do this in Mail.app) 2) importing old mail from eMailer lost lots of info (message subjects, etc.)

Here are some tricks if you want to use Mail.app:
1) first import old mail from eMailer into Entourage, then import from Entourage into Mail.app
2) if you want Mail.app to treat AOL mail similarly to eMailer:
  a) set up Mail.app to access AOL account as "IMAP", not "POP"
  b) create a local inbox (I named it "_Inbox_Local")
  c) set up a rule to copy all mail to this local inbox
  d) create a second rule to mark all mail as "read"
What will this do? Every time you check mail, any new AOL mail will be copied to your local inbox. When it is eventually deleted from AOL's server, you will still have this local copy. Additionally all of this mail will be marked as "read" on the AOL server, and it will still be accessible from the web on other machines. This is true even if you move the local copy to a different folder. (If you move mail from the main Mail.app inbox to a folder, it gets deleted from the AOL server.)
