'less convenient'?????

A 13" as your "primary work screen" ????? ICK!!!

Agreed, it is kind of a pain. But I no longer have a "desktop" machine, I work entirely off my laptop these days as my work computer. Thus why I am trying to get my hands on a nice large widescreen to use as a 2nd display (I have a 19" LCD I might co-opt if I can't get a widescreen, but I'd rather a wide)

RD? Ya lost me on that. What's 'RD'? Is that like
maybe... remote desktop or something? Guess that would
at least make it ... barely tolerable if you can reach
across to other monitors remotely.

Yes, Remote Desktop. I control bunches more of machines that way (200 + are under my care, but on any given day, only a half dozen or so do I actually have to deal with), all from my laptop.

Then again, I s'pose if you're sitting right by them
and using them 'remotely' that would be interesting to
see how it worked.

No, the closest of the machines that I do with RD are in the next room, and that is more because it is easier then getting up. The rest are either in our data center about 45 minutes away or spread all over the USA at different customer locations.

Although I did used to use Timbuktu to control the Mac that was connected to my top right hand monitor at my old desk. That was so I didn't have to drag the keyboard out from under the desk (it was used for automated tasks, so I didn't have to do any real "work" on it very often, I mostly just needed the monitor to keep an eye on things and make sure none of the tasks hung). I stopped using Timbuktu and changed to a little app that allowed me to "tunnel" keyboard and mouse control from my main Mac to the other one, kind of like a software based keyboard/mouse switch. I continued to use Timbuktu to control some old Mac servers in a closet outside my office however. Again, mostly so I didn't have to bother getting up.
