with OpenSource libraries for mathematical functions (e.g. Colt Libraries
from CERN) and graphing (e.g. JFreeChart) is a plus.
The programs involve large-scale Monte Carlo simulations, so developing
code that runs efficiently is important; include programming with
multiple threads to take advantage of multi-processor computers and
computer clusters.
Experience with environmental computer models, basic statistics, and the
principles of mathematical simulation are needed.
You will have to work with biologists and other scientists in addition
to other programmers and database developers.
The candidate needs good communication skills, both oral
and written, and will need to document all work on the project.
